Following Jesus

Explore questions of life, faith, and meaning

At Yass Valley Anglican we believe that everyone has questions. That’s why we run Alpha. Alpha is a series of sessions where we share a meal, watch a presentation and share our thoughts on the big questions of life. If you’ve ever wanted to ask about life, faith, Jesus, the church, Alpha is the place for you. To find out more click here.

Following Jesus – Being a disciple of Jesus and learning to be more and more like him is an exciting and never-ending adventure.

Just like anything else we want to improve in our lives our faith life and the development of a more godly character requires study and practice.

There is stuff to learn and to put into practice no matter how long or short your walk with the Lord Jesus has been so far.

From time to time we will have activities and events to help you along the path and they will be listed on the “What’s Happening” page.

But there are three things you can do for yourself at any time:

1. Pray

  • At the beginning of each day ask God to go before you into that day.
  • Thank God at the end of each day for being with you during the day.
  • Ask his advise often (even about routine things) and take the time to listen to his answer before you act.

2. Study the Word of God

When all is said and done God went to a great deal of trouble over many thousands of years so we could have his word for us here today in our own language.

As Paul the Apostle told Timothy:

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.“

(2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT)

3. Spend time with other Christians

Attend Church regularly, weekly if you can, and be part of a small group that also meets regularly.

There are small groups that meet over lunch in their workplaces, around their shared love of gardening or even cooking, perhaps you all have children of the same age or attending the same school.

It doesn’t matter the excuse as long you invite God, talk about your faith and have fun together.
