God’s Holy Spirit has always been present on Ngunnawal Country and in the Yass Valley. Anglican ministry began here in 1838. The timeline below outlines some of the key moments of our parish’s story.
1838 Rev R. Cartwright was licenced on 31 March 1838 to minister to the County of Murray and part of King County
1838-59 Rev C. Brigstocke became the first priest licenced to Yass as a defined parish
1840 First temporary church in Yass
1841-1843 Yass rectory built
1842-1843 Rev William Lisle
1843 First burial in Church of England (Anglican) burial ground
1847 Bishop Broughton laid St Clements Church foundation stone
1850 St Clements Church opened for service
1851 Tumut-Wagga-Gundagai separated from parish
