Will I be struck by lightning?
Many people believe that they can’t because they are not perfect, or that they are just too “bad” for church and God. Its just not true.
In fact the odds are in well and truly inyour favour. The odds of being struck by lighting are about 1 in 1.6 million, regardless of whether you’re going to church for the first time or if you go every Sunday; but you’ll certainly be safer inside the church than outside if there is a thunderstorm.
Apart from that Jesus said
‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” (Matthew 9:13)
What should I wear?
We don’t have a particular dress code for our members or guests, and generally on Sundays we are greeted with a variety of styles of clothing. There is no specific correct attire but we think it makes sense to wear clean, modest clothing to church. As long as you do this you I doubt you will feel out of place.
Do you have child minding facilities such as a Sunday school or a crèche?
We do try to have something prepared for the children at all the morning services in Yass and there is special family service in the 2nd Sunday of the month in Murrumbateman that focusses on providing activities and bible teaching for children. As the number of families and children grow we will provide both Children’s Church and crèche facilities for our morning services.
Where do I sit?
You may sit wherever you wish. For some unknown cultural reason, Anglican churches seem to fill from the back row, so the late arrivals can find it difficult to slip quietly in the back.
Because it can be daunting to sit all the way at the front especially on the first visit, I suggest you arrive 10-15 minutes before the start time and if you have any problems with finding a good seat, ask the two or three people located at the door to help you find
What are your services like?
There are a variety of services in several locations and times throughout the Parish. The current schedule of services is available here or by calling the Rectory on 02 6226 1089.
However, there are morning services every Sunday at St Clements Yass and All Saints Murrumbateman.
Generally, in each service, we sing songs/hymns; speak a few prayers; take up a collection and hear a message from the Bible, with refreshments afterwards. Most morning services (but not all) include Holy Communion / Lords Supper.
Do visitors have to take part in all or any of the above activities?
No, you are not expected to take part in anything that you don’t wish to be involved in but you are invited to participate in any part of the service.
Please note that we DO NOT expect guests and visitors to contribute to the financial collection.
We want you to feel as comfortable as possible and we hope you will find in our church a warm family spirit, truth from God’s Word and a place where you can grow in God’s grace.
