Kind words are like honey – sweet to the soul and healthy for the body. Proverbs 16:24
When I was a child (unfortunately too long ago) we used to quote this little ditty “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt them (me)”. On one level that may be true however on another level it is completely wrong.
Physically words thrown at a person cannot hurt them like a stick or a stone however spiritually and mentally it is very different story. Words cut deep into the soul of the hearer as they are transmitted from the soul of the speaker. The eyes may be the windows to the soul however the tongue expresses the thoughts of the soul.
In these times of uncertainty, lack of physical social interaction and fear of a microscopic bug, often the worst in people begins to surface as we do not have time to spread out, reset or relax through our normal strategies.
This is a time when we need to consciously think about what we are going to communicate and remain focussed on being kind to each other so that we can help those with troubled souls bringing Jesus’ love and peace and thus physical health to those around us.
Godspeed
